Networks can be a little complcated if you didn’t study this aspect of housing. Since all buildings have been renovated, or built from the ground up, all of the network features were taken into consideration. This will include RJ45 for network, coaxial in the closet for television, and why there are no RJ11 jacks.
First, let’s address the RJ11 jacks. Simply put, Verizon is no longer supporting new customers, or moving customers with POTS? system. Since they will no longer support this feature, there is no need to building out and waste infrastructure over. One could assume that they could have been used for the intercom system, but this is very limited in capability, so it still does not make any sense to run telephone line throughout the building or apartments. You can use the ethernet lines to add a SIP? phone, and some phones might require POE? which you can do that in the network closet. You could also use a wifi? phone to connect to the rest of the world. If it was me, the intercom will ring the dedicated wifi phone which will be in the Great Room even though there will be other wifi phones in the residence.
Next is television. If you want OTA? TV, you would need a smartTV, and the appropriate app. One window in the great room, and the bedrooms will have an electrical outlet, and ethernet jack at the window sill. Tou will plug the DVR? to the electrical outlet, and to the ethernet. You must have a smartTV or TV adapter if you have a basic TV.
Last is networking. All units (except SRO?s) will have a communications closet. Most rooms will have ethernet jacks in the wall, and all of these lines will rung to a patch panel which will then connect to the LAN?. All ethernet lines will use the current standard to support as high of a speed as possible. The only issue will be the switches which will likely use 1GBPS connections. This will be fine as most people’s internet services is less than 1GBPS connectivity. For internet, the communications closet will have options for every ISP? solution. While I will hope so, Verizon may not be able to serve all areas. Keep in mind that cellular routers will have a harder time to get a connection in the communications closet. If you place it by a window, then you would not be able to use the ethernet lines in the unit.
