Gas is usually used for cooking, heating, and hot water. This will not be the case with FSP Realty. All such resources will use electricity to provide for. However, gas will be used for the backup generator. Since everyone is on the same meter, the battery banks will constantly provide electricity for all of the units drawing on electricity from the grid as expected. However when there is a grid outage, the gas line will kick in a few seconds after electricity is not detected. There will be enough battery banks to provide for the electricity during those 3 seconds delay. This means nothing happens, and you may not even know you have a grid outage until you use an electrical outlet that is not tied to the emergency system.
The gas for the emergency system will provide electricity for the common spaces, the appliances, and one outlet per room. In addition, the laundry closet will have a dedicated backup system that should last for 60 minutes. This will be enough time to finish a wash or dry a load. You would have to wait for the electricity to come back on before you can continue your laundry. The same will apply for the laundry facilities in the laundry room (usually in the basement). There is no way to run gas to all of the outlets with just subsidized housing. Since I feel there needs to be more subsidized housing, I will not buy a building only to make it for higher than fair market rent.
